2010 LIVE RACING SEASON BEGINS IN APRIL! The Live Racing season at Harrah's Chester returns on April 23, 2010 and continues through December 15. Post time will be 12:45 P.M. For the full 2010 racing schedule click on the Live Racing Calendar link. 2009 LIVE RACING SEASON HIGHLIGHTS The last bugle call to post for the year has sounded. The dust on the track has settled. Here are some of the highlights of the 2009 racing season here at Harrah’s Chester. Southwind Tempo, driven by Tim Tetrick, won the $250,000 Betsy Ross Final on April 26 setting a new world record of 1:48 3/5 for aged (four-year-olds & older) pacing mares on a 5/8 mile track. Lucky Jim won his 12th straight race of the year in taking the $250,000 Maxie Lee Memorial Final on May 24. Time of the mile was 1:52 2/5, which equaled the all-age track record for trotters shared by Gabby Glide and Buck I St Pat. The 4-year-old gelding would go on to record 17 wins out of 18 starts for the year with over $1 million in earnings.
The Ed Lohmeyer trained Classic Lane set a new track record for 4-year-old trotting mares with her 1:54 mile on May 25. Hall of Famer Mike Lachance was in the bike. Two-year-old gelding trotter Correctamundo set a new track record of 1:56 3/5 on July 19 in a Stallion Series event, which at the time was a world record. Less than a month later, he broke his own world record at The Meadows. Mister Big won the $500,000 Ben Franklin Final with his all-age world record equaling time of 1:48 on July 26. He was driven by Brian Sears. Well Said took top honors in capturing the $500,000 Battle of the Brandywine on Super Stakes Sunday (August 16) in 1:50. The three-year-old colt started the 2009 season with a win in a conditioned event at Harrah’s Chester on June 3. A new world record for three-year-old trotting colts was set in the $500,000 Colonial on August 16. Explosive Matter with Ron Pierce at the reins captured the event in 1:53. Corey Callahan guided Lookout Hanover to a new world record for four-year-old stallions with his 1:49 victory on August 16. Also on August 16, Fire On The Water set a new track record for three-year-old colt pacers with his 1:49 3/5 in the Battle of the Brandywine Consolation II. Clear Vision won a Pennsylvania Sire Stake event on August 23 establishing a new track record for three-year-old pacing geldings of 1:49 3/5. The two-year-old trotting filly Costa Rica set a new track record with her 1:56 2/5 effort in the $450,000 Goldsmith Maid Final on September 6. On September 13, Rock N Roll Heaven won his elimination for the Governor’s Cup Early Closer in a world record 1:50 3/5 for two-year-old pacing colts on a 5/8 mile track. One week later (September 20) in the $600,000 Governor’s Cup Final, One More Laugh gave an outstanding performance by taking the top honors with his world record effort of 1:49 2/5. Not only was this a world record for two-year-old pacing geldings, but equaled the world record for a 2-year-old pacer on any size track. On September 27, there were three dead-heats for win: Race 5 - Lightningjacksback & Winbak Prince – 1:53 4/5 Race 6 - Chinatown K & Melissa’s Fancy – 1:54 2/5 Race 12 – Anglebrook & Pacific Hoss – 1:54 2/5 This is the most deadheats for win on a single program at any track. Makerbark established a new world record for four-year-old pacing mares with her eye-popping 1:49 2/5 effort on November 9. Yannick Gingras drove the Roger Hammer trained distaffer. 2009 Harrah’s Chester Leading Driver George Napolitano, Jr. recorded 10 wins on November 11. That was the most wins on a single program at Chester. He closed out the racing season here with 313 victories.
